2. How and when did your city get its name?

A water stop was needed at the 302.16 mile point of the Sante Fe Railroad (which would later develop into Sanger. Elizabeth Hulling owned a nearby property and sold the acreage to the railroad company in 1886. Its proximity to the Chisom Trail cattle drive made it an ideal stopping point for the railroad company which began loading cattle to Kansas City.  The area became known as Hulling after Elizabeth Hulling, but was later named New Boliver. This, however, was confusing and the name was rejected. In 1887, the Sante Fe Railroad officially named the area Sanger after the Sanger Brothers, the most popular merchants in the state.
